• Do not turn (roll) the seal as you install it. Damage to the seal may result.

13. Use a ring compressor to compress the seal to the correct size (Figure 16-63, Page 16-35). Leave the
tool over the Teflon seal for five minutes.
14. Install the head on the rod (Figure 16-64, Page 16-35).
15. Note piston type and install according to the following:
15.1. For cylinders with a cushioned piston, install the piston on the rod with the tapered end first (toward
the head) (Figure 16-65, Page 16-36).
15.2. For all other cylinders, install the cushion sleeve (if so equipped) and piston on the rod
(Figure 16-66, Page 16-36).
