The following are tips to ensure your bench test setup is done properly.
1. Ensure DC power is connected properly to the POE injector
2. Have at least 45db of attenuation between Apex Units.
3. Connect the attenuator directly to the Apex Unit without waveguide adapter.
(Figure 34)
4. Properly configure the Apex units to the configuration you will be using in the
field. More information on the setup process can be found in Chapter 3 –
Configuration.
5. Adjust the amount of attenuation to ensure the RSSI is less than -25dBm ( -30 to
-35 is optimal)
6. Perform throughput testing by connecting PC's to the data ports and passing
FTP or other IP traffic across the link.
7. Confirm proper SNMP setup by enabling your traps and monitoring. Now is a
good time to "break" the link by increasing attenuation or turning opmode off.
This will issue a trap that the modem lock has been lost.
NOTE:
If waveguide attenuators are not available to you for your bench test,
!
DO NOT connect the Apex units to your antennas. Using antennas at very
close range tests will damage the radios. Instead, lay the radios on the bench
with the waveguide pointed at the ceiling. Even though the radios are not
pointed at each other, it is usually possible to create a link "over the air" with no
waveguide, transition, antennas, or attenuators present.
