Replacing a QIP or Bus
Expansion Module
Before You Begin
The Spectra T200 and T380 libraries use Quad Interface Processors (QIPs) to connect
SCSI drives to a network.
F-QIPs connect SCSI drives to a Fibre Channel network.
E-QIPs connect SCSI drives to a Gigabit Ethernet (iSCSI) network.
Using a QIP eliminates the need for external bridges to translate the communication
protocols between the SCSI interface on the drives and the Fibre Channel or Gigabit
Ethernet network.
When using direct-attach SCSI drives, a bus expansion module must be installed in the
controller bay to the right of the drives in the drive bay assembly (DBA). The bus
expansion module provides the second SCSI connection required connect each drive to
a SCSI bus.
Direct-attach Fibre Channel drives connect directly to the network and do not use a
QIP or a bus expansion module.
Note:
A QIPs or bus expansion module mounts vertically, with the
captive screws to the right, in the controller bay along the right
side of each DBA. The QIP in Figure 6-1 and the bus expansion
module in Figure 6-2 are shown in a horizontal position for
reference only.
