6.1 Installation Checklist

The following instructions serve as a quick start when using the cables supplied with the Development Kit. Refer
to
5.7 Connector Pin-out
1.
Plug the power supply into the power connector on the breakout cable and then into the wall socket. See
6.4 Power
Supply.
2.
Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet socket on the breakout cable, and into your network.

Mount the unit in the standard alignment of X+ pointing forward and Z+ pointing down. For more

Mount the two GNSS antennas in a level orientation with a clear view of the sky. The primary antenna
should be positioned directly forwards of the secondary antenna with separation of at least 0.5 metres.

Connect the coaxial antenna cables between the antennas and Certus. The antenna cables should not
be coiled.

Accurately measure the GNSS antenna offset from the centre of the Certus unit to the central base of the
primary antenna in the body co-ordinate frame (X+ forward and Z+ down, see

Frame) and enter these values into the

6.2 Mounting Certus OEM

When installing Certus into a vehicle, the mounting position and alignment of the unit are essential for achieving
optimal performance. Position refers to the physical location within the vehicle where the unit is installed while
alignment refers to the orientation of the unit with respect to the orientation of the vehicle.
Before you install Certus, review the considerations for selecting a location and instructions alignment of the unit
outlined below.
When planning a mounting location for Certus, be mindful of the following recommendations:
Mount the unit in an area that will not exceed the rated temperature range, and with minimal temperature
l
swings.
Mount the unit away from high levels of vibration where possible.
l
Mount the unit within several metres of the GNSS antennas where possible.
l
Mount close to the centre of gravity of the vehicle where possible.
l
Mount the unit at least 10 cm away (and preferably as far as possible) from sources of dynamic magnetic
l
interference such as high current wiring or large motors for best performance.
