IDE Configuration submenu

The IDE Configuration submenu allows you to configure the different settings
for the mass storage devices that are connected to the 7-pin SATA connectors on
the Matrox 4Sight X motherboard.
Although the submenu is called "IDE," the items of this submenu control the
mass storage devices (connected directly to the motherboard) that have 7-pin
SATA connectors.
Meaning
This item allows you to select the type of mass storage devices that you have connected to the 7-pin SATA
connectors on the motherboard.
By selecting Disabled, the BIOS and the operating system will not detect mass storage devices connected to
the 7-pin SATA connectors.
By selecting Compatible, you are specifying that:
• The mass storage devices have 7-pin SATA connectors.
• The storage devices use only ATA/IDE-compatible legacy features.
By selecting Enhanced, you are specifying that:
• The mass storage devices have 7-pin SATA connectors.
• The storage devices might use advanced SATA features that are not supported by older operating
systems such as Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 2000.
This item only appears in the IDE Configuration submenu if you have chosen the Compatible option for the
ATA/IDE Configuration item.
This item reports that SATA devices will use only ATA/IDE-compatible legacy features.
This item only appears in the IDE Configuration submenu if you have chosen the Enhanced option for the
ATA/IDE Configuration item.
By selecting IDE, the SATA controller will operate in legacy (IDE) mode. SATA devices wil be emulated as IDE
devices. This option should be chosen for older operating systems that do not support AHCI.
By selecting AHCI, the SATA controller will operate in AHCI mode. Operating systems such as Microsoft
Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista support AHCI; devices will be configured as SATA devices that
support AHCI.
This item allows you to enable or disable write protection for the mass storage devices attached to the
motherboard. To enable or disable write protection, the storage device must be accessible through the BIOS
(that is, the operating system calls the BIOS to enable hard disk access). This is true for DOS, but not for
Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. Therefore, for the supported operating system of Matrox 4Sight X, you must
choose Disabled.
This item allows you to set the time, in seconds, before the BIOS stops searching for mass storage devices
connected to the motherboard.
