60 Chapter 3: Adding devices to the Matrox 4Sight X motherboard
Exception for
Matrox 4Sight XB
unit

Overview

The Matrox 4Sight X unit is designed to accommodate selected hardware
additions. The unit has internal (motherboard) connectors for USB devices,
SO-DIMM memory modules, fans, and mass storage devices.
The unit also has connectors for frame grabbers:
• The Matrox 4Sight XB unit has a riser board attached to the PCIe connector on
the motherboard; you can connect Matrox or third-party full-height, half-length
1
x1, x4, or x8
PCIe boards to the riser board.
• The PCI/104-Express Matrox 4Sight X unit has internal PCI and PCIe
connectors on its motherboard for PCI-104
If you have purchased the integrated-unit version of Matrox 4Sight X, the first
step in making hardware additions typically involves removing the chassis cover
If you remove the chassis cover, you will have access to all the connectors located
on the motherboard. The following sections outline how to remove the chassis
cover, as well as how to connect mass storage devices, USB devices, memory
modules. and optional boards.
To install or uninstall full-height, half-length PCIe boards (in the
Matrox 4Sight XB unit), you only need to open the side door of the chassis. For
more information on installing these boards, see the Installing full-height,
half-length PCIe boards in the Matrox 4Sight XB unit section, later in this chapter.
1. The connectors on the riser board are x8 PCIe connectors supporting x1 or x4 electri-
cal connections. If you install an x8 PCIe board in one of the slots, the x8 PCIe board
will operate at a maximum of x4 PCIe or x1 PCIe, depending on the next lowest com-
mon configuration supported by the PCIe board and the riser board (x4 PCIe or
x1 PCIe).
2. The PCI/104-Express Matrox 4Sight X unit does not support all PCI-104 boards.
Use only PCI-104 boards with 3.3 V signalling.
3. If the Matrox 4Sight X motherboard is installed in a factory-provided chassis, be sure
to always operate the unit with the cover on. This ensures that the fan properly
removes any heat accumulating in the heat sinks.
