• In order to reduce the malfunctioning risk of the MyoHand VariPlus Speed and the connected
components due to strong electromagnetic radiation (e.g. when near high-tension power lines,
transmitters or security systems for goods in department stores), set the electrode gains as
low as possible.
• Before interrupting or establishing electrical connections (such as when removing the Hand
from the prosthesis), the battery must be removed from the battery receptacle to disconnect
the system from the power supply.
• If you do not achieve the expected results by adjustment and by selection of the appropriate
control mode, please contact an Ottobock Myo-Service facility.
• Use the "Patient Information" section of this pamphlet (Section 3) to inform your patient about
the function and use of the MyoHand VariPlus Speed.

3 Patient information

• Do not allow foreign particles or liquids to get into the MyoHand VariPlus Speed mechanism.
• The MyoHand VariPlus Speed should not be subjected to intense smoke, dust, mechanical
vibrations, shocks or high temperatures.
• Avoid staying near high-tension power lines, transmitters, transformers or other sources of
strong electromagnetic radiation (such as security systems for goods in department stores),
as this can lead to malfunction of the MyoHand VariPlus Speed.
• The MyoHand VariPlus Speed has been developed for everyday use and must not be used for
unusual activities such as extreme sports (free climbing, paragliding, etc.). Careful handling of
the prosthesis and its components not only increases their service life but, above all, ensures
the patient's personal safety! Should the prosthesis be subjected to unusual stresses (such as a
fall), immediately contact your prosthetist and have the prosthesis inspected for any damage. If
necessary, the responsible prosthetist will pass the prosthesis on to the Ottobock Myo-Service.
• The MyoHand VariPlus Speed and MyoHand VariPlus Speed components may be opened or
repaired only by certifed Ottobock Myo-Service technicians.
• If the MyoHand VariPlus Speed will not be used for an extended period of time, it should be left
in the open position to protect the mechanism.
• Please provide your patient with the 646D165 Patient Information on the MyoHand VariPlus Speed.
• If the distance to HF communication devices (e.g. mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, WLAN
devices) is too small, interference with internal data communications can result in unexpected
prosthesis behaviour. It is recommended to maintain the following minimum distances:
• Mobile phone GSM 850/GSM 900: 0.99m
• Mobile phone GSM 1800/GSM 1900/UMTS: 0.7m
• DECT cordless phones incl. base station: 0.35m
• WLAN (routers, access points,...): 0.22m
• Bluetooth devices (third-party products not approved by Ottobock): 0.22m
• When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active, implantable systems (e.g. pace-
makers, defibrillators, etc.), ensure that the minimum distances stipulated by the manufacturer
of the implant are observed. Interference with active, implantable systems may occur due to
the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the product. Furthermore, make sure to observe any
operating conditions and safety instructions stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant.
