SoundAdvisor Model 831C
Step 1 Connect preamplifier and microphone to the 831C.
For complete instructions, see 2.1.2 "Connecting the Preamplifier to
Meter" on page 2-2.
Step 2 Turn meter On
Off" on page 2-8.
Step 3 Navigate to Tools Setup Manager and indicate or check all values
desired for your measurement. For complete instructions, see 6.2

Step 4 Calibrate the meter. For complete instructions, see 5.4 Calibrating Your
SoundAdvisor 831C.
The best position for sound recording is to mount the 831C on a tripod.
If held in hand, position your body away from and on an angle to the
meter to minimize interference of the sound field at the microphone
resulting from body reflections. The microphone should be angled
away from the body.
If using a free-field microphone like the 377B02, the meter should be
"pointed" at the sound source being measured.
Microphone Extension Cable
Always position the preamplifier/microphone in a way to minimize the

effect of reflections on the sound field near the microphone.
A shielded microphone extension cable may be placed between the
meter
and the preamplifier/microphone if needed for the
measurement position. No correction is necessary when using Larson
