Keysight 8163B Firmware Upgrade Procedure
You require a PC running MS Windows and a null-modem serial cable,
such as is supplied with your 8163B mainframe.
To upgrade the 8163B firmware:

Connect your instrument to your PC with the serial cable.

Turn on the 8163B and wait until the Keysight screen appears.
Quickly:
•
Press, but do not hold, the Aux hardkey
•
Press the Appl hardkey.
If you were successful, the instrument displays:
"Instrument Maintenance Mode".
Otherwise, turn off the power and try again.

At your PC, run the update tool to start ATTools_v1_2x.exe.
Click OK to confirm that you have completed steps 1 to 3.
When the serial connection has been established, which may be after a
pause of around 30 seconds, the ATTools user interface is displayed.

Select the firmware image (file type .Z) in the file selection box, then
click the Update Firmware button. Note that older 8163B units without
LAN interface require a different firmware file than units with LAN.
Click OK to confirm your choice of firmware upgrade.

The firmware upgrade is tracked by a progress bar in the ATTools user
interface.
When the update is complete, a confirmation message is displayed.
Click OK.

Click Exit to terminate ATTools.
Your 8163B reboots automatically.
8164A Firmware Upgrade Procedure
To upgrade firmware for the 8164A, you require two empty floppy disks.
Prepare the two floppy disks using the files and readme instructions in the
directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Agilent\Photonic Application Suite\
InstrumentFirmwareLibrary\8164A Mainframes or provided in the
downloaded firmware file.

Insert DISK_1 into the mainframe.

Turn on the 8164A and wait for the first beep.
