Instructions:
Use parallel bars for first trial walk with the knee joints. Instruct the patient that lifting the hip
is not necessary for disengaging the brake and starting the swing phase. Unlike conventional
knee joints with friction brake such as the 3R49 Modular Knee Joint, the brake disengages
as early as when the forefoot is loaded. Thus the securing effect of the brake is missing at
the point of forefoot contact e.g. when the prosthesis is in the heel off phase. The brake also
disengages / switches off when the forefoot is loaded unintentionally, which may under
circumstances result in a fall, if this is not conveyed to the patient.
The brake also offers the desired security when standing in a slightly knee flexed position. Due to
the construction, the braking system is durable and self-adapting, that is, adjusting the effective-
ness of the brake is generally not necessary.
For joint 3R90, a mechanical extension assist with a progressively acting spring combination
serves to control the swing phase. The joint 3R92 is equipped with a progressively acting dual-
chamber pneumatic system.
A flexible plastic cover encases the mechanical parts of the lower joint section.

Service life
INFORMATION
As a basic principle, all Ottobock knee joints are subjected to tests involving three million load
cycles. Depending on the amputee's activity this corresponds to a service life of three to five years.
We recommend carrying out regular safety checks once a year.

Combination possibilities

INFORMATION
When fabricating a prosthesis for the lower limbs, all of the prosthetic components used have
to meet the requirements in regard to the patient's body weight and activity level.

Prothetic feet
Connection to the prosthetic foot is provided by employing the included tube adapter, which is to
be shortened according to the leg length.
Attention!
Do not clamp the tube into a vise! Cut the tube using 719R2 Tube Cutter placed at a
right angle to the tube. Afterwards carefully debur the tube inside and outside using the
718R1 Tube Inside and Outside Reamer. Insert the tube until it is fully seated inside the
integrated tube clamp. Tighten the cap screw using the 710D1 Torque Wrench.
Torque: 10 Nm (7.4 lbf. ft / 88.5 lbf. in) (Fig. 3)
Attention!
For trial fitting: Tighten the 506G3 Set Screws of the tube adapter which are side-by-side
to a torque of 10 Nm using the 710D4 Torque Wrench. To finish the prosthesis: Apply
636K13 Loctite to the set screws, pre-tighten the side-by-side set screws to a torque
of 10 Nm, then tighten all four set screws to a torque of 15 Nm (11.1 lbf. ft / 133 lbf. in).
