Safety instructions
Attention!
These knee joints with friction brake are contraindicated for patients who are chro-
nically dependent on mobility devices (e.g. anterior walkers, crutches) as well as
for insecure patients whose gait cycle does not permit them to apply the brake me-
chanism as required, i.e. to lock the knee joint at heel contact and unlock it when
the forefoot is bearing weight.
The Ottobock MOBIS is not intended to be used as a guide to obtaining reimbursement
for prosthetic components in the USA.
Please avoid exposing prosthetic components to surroundings that corrode metal parts,
for example, freshwater, saltwater, acids and other liquids. Using this medical product
in such environmental conditions will render all claims against Otto Bock HealthCare
null and void.
Please inform your patients.
Reuse on another patient
Fall due to loss of functionality as well as damage to the product
• Only use the product for a single patient.
• Inform the patient.
1.4
Construction and function
These single-axis knee joints are equipped with a novel, weight-dependent braking mechanism
that offers the patient a high degree of security. At heel contact, the brake responds, stabilizes
the prosthesis and ensures a high degree of stance phase security. During loading of the forefoot,
the brake deactivates to allow the patient to initiate the swing phase easily and harmoniously wi-
thout raising his or her hip. When used correctly, this makes it possible for patients to walk much
more naturally and exert less energy in comparison to conventional knee joints with friction brake.
