I EEE 802.1p defines up t o eight separat e t raffic t ypes by insert ing a t ag int o a MAC- layer fram e t hat cont ains
bit s t o define class of service. Fram es wit hout an explicit priorit y t ag are given t he default priorit y of t he
ingress port . Use t he following fields t o configure t he priorit y level- t o- physical queue m apping.
The Swit ch has eight physical queues t hat you can m ap t o t he 8 priorit y levels. On t he Swit ch, t raffic assigned
t o higher index queues get s t hrough fast er while t raffic in lower index queues is dropped if t he net work is
congest ed.
Priorit y Level ( The following descript ions are based on t he t raffic t ypes defined in t he I EEE 802.1d st andard
( which incorporat es t he 802.1p) .

6.5 IP Setup

Use t he I P Se t u p screen t o configure t he default gat eway device, t he default dom ain nam e server
and add I P dom ains.
6.5.1 IP Interfaces
The Swit ch needs an I P address for it t o be m anaged over t he net work. The fact ory default I P
address is 192.168.1.1. The subnet m ask specifies t he net work num ber port ion of an I P address.
The fact ory default subnet m ask is 255.255.255.0.
On t he Swit ch, an I P address is not bound t o any physical port s. Since each I P address on t he
Swit ch m ust be in a separat e subnet , t he configured I P address is also known as I P int erface ( or
rout ing dom ain) . I n addit ion, t his allows rout ing bet ween subnet s based on t he I P address wit hout
addit ional rout ers.
You can configure m ult iple rout ing dom ains on t he sam e VLAN as long as t he I P address ranges for
t he dom ains do not overlap. To change t he I P address of t he Swit ch in a rout ing dom ain, sim ply add
a new rout ing dom ain ent ry wit h a different I P address in t he sam e subnet .
Chapter 6 Basic Setting
DESCRIPTION
Typically used for net work cont rol t raffic such as rout er configurat ion m essages.
Typically used for voice t raffic t hat is especially sensit ive t o j it t er ( j it t er is t he variat ions in
delay) .
Typically used for video t hat consum es high bandwidt h and is sensit ive t o j it t er.
Typically used for cont rolled load, lat ency- sensit ive t raffic such as SNA ( Syst em s Net work
Archit ect ure) t ransact ions.
Typically used for " excellent effort " or bet t er t han best effort and would include im port ant
business t raffic t hat can t olerat e som e delay.
This is for " spare bandwidt h".
This is t ypically used for non- crit ical " background" t raffic such as bulk t ransfers t hat are
allowed but t hat should not affect ot her applicat ions and users.
Typically used for best- effort t raffic.
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Swit ch's run- t im e m em ory. The Swit ch loses
t hese changes if it is t urned off or loses power, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op navigat ion
panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em ory when you are done configuring.
Click Ca n ce l t o begin configuring t his screen afresh.
