7.3 Port VLAN Trunking

Enable VLAN Tr u nk in g on a port t o allow fram es belonging t o unknown VLAN groups t o pass
t hrough t hat port . This is useful if you want t o set up VLAN groups on end devices wit hout having t o
configure t he sam e VLAN groups on int erm ediary devices.
The following figure describes VLAN Tr unk ing. Suppose you want t o creat e VLAN groups 1 and 2
( V1 and V2) on devices A and B. Wit hout VLAN Tr un k ing, you m ust configure VLAN groups 1 and
2 on all int erm ediary swit ches C, D and E; ot herwise t hey will drop fram es wit h unknown VLAN
group t ags. However, wit h VLAN Tr u n k in g enabled on a port ( s) in each int erm ediary swit ch you
only need t o creat e VLAN groups in t he end devices ( A and B) . C, D and E aut om at ically allow
fram es wit h VLAN group t ags 1 and 2 ( VLAN groups t hat are unknown t o t hose swit ches) t o pass
t hrough t heir VLAN t runking port ( s) .

7.4 Select the VLAN Type
Select a VLAN t ype in t he Ba sic Se t t ing > Sw it ch Se t up screen. VLAN Type is not applicable in
St acking m ode.

7.5 802.1Q Static VLAN
Make sure 8 0 2 .1 Q is select ed in t he Ba sic Se t t ing > Sw it ch Se t up screen.
Use a st at ic VLAN t o decide whet her an incom ing fram e on a port should be
• sent t o a VLAN group as norm al depending on it s VL AN t ag.
• sent t o a group whet her it has a VLAN t ag or not .
• blocked from a VLAN group regardless of it s VLAN t a g.
You can also t ag all out going fram es ( t hat were previously unt agged) from a port wit h t he specified
VI D.
