Port s advert ise t heir unidirect ional link det ect i on capabilit y using OAMPDUs, so all connect ed
devices m ust support OAM as well as ZULD. You need t o enable OAM on t he Swit ch by going t o
Adva nce d Applica t ion > OAM > Configur a t ion and select ing Act ive . OAM m ust be enabled
on ot her connect ed devices t oo. I f OAM is not enabled init ially, ZULD will not work.

I f OAM is enabled init ially and lat er disabled on one end of a link, t he link will be unidirect ional as
t hat end cannot send OAMPDUs.
•
OAM discovery, t he sending of OAMPDUs t o ot her por t s, is init iat ed by an act ive port .
•
When ZULD det ect s a unidirect ional link, it sends a syslog and SNMP t rap and m ay shut down
t he affect ed port ( Aggr e sssive M ode ) .

I f a port on t he Swit ch is shut down by ZULD, and you want t o recover it , t hen do one of t he
following:

Go t o Ba sic Se t t ing > Por t Se t up. Clear Act ive and click Apply. Then select Act ive and
click Apply again.

Go t o Applica t ion > Er r dia ble > Er r disa ble Re cove r y and set t he int erval for ZULD. Aft er
t he int erval expires, t he closed port ( s) will becom e act ive and st art receiving packet s again.
Use t he com m and port no inactive.

Refer t o t he ZULD logs t o see when a unidirect ion al link is det ect ed and when it is recovered t o a
bidirect ional link.

Use t his screen t o see det ails of unidirect ional and bidirect ional links discovered by ZULD. To open
t his screen, click Adva n ce d Applica t ion > ZULD.
