Chapter 11 Spanning Tree Protocol
DESCRIPTION
Select t his check box t o enable root guard on t his port in order t o prevent t he swit ch( es)
at t ached t o t he port from becom ing t he root bridge.
Wit h root guard enabled, a port is blocked when t he Swit ch receives a superior BPDU on
it . The Swit ch allows t raffic t o pass t hrough t his port again when t he swit ch connect ed t o
t he port st ops t o send superior BPDUs.
Configure t he priorit y for each port here.
Priorit y decides which port should be disabled when m ore t han one port form s a loop in
t he Swit ch. Port s wit h a higher priorit y num eric value are disabled first . The allowed range
is bet ween 0 and 255 and t he default value is 128.
Pat h cost is t he cost of t ransm it t ing a fram e on t o a LAN t hrough t hat port . I t is
recom m ended t hat you assign t his value according t o t he speed of t he bridge. The slower
t he m edia, t he higher t he cost - see
Select which STP t ree configurat ion t his port should part icipat e in.
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Swit ch's run- t im e m em ory. The Swit ch loses
t hese changes if it is t urned off or loses power, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op navigat ion
panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em ory when you are done configuring.
Click Ca n ce l t o begin configuring t his screen afresh.
