as shown.
Chapter 17 Port Security
DESCRIPTION
Ent er t he num ber of t he port ( s) ( separat ed by a com m a) on which you want t o enable port
securit y and disable MAC address learning. I n st acking m ode, t he first num ber represent s
t he slot and t he second t he port num ber. Ent er 1/ 1- 1/ 24,2/ 28 for port s 1 t o 24 for t he
Swit ch in slot 1 and port 28 for t he Swit ch in slot 2, for exam ple. Aft er you click M AC
fr e e ze , all previously learned MAC addresses on t he specified port ( s) will becom e st at ic
MAC addresses and display in t he St a t ic M AC For w a r din g screen.
Click M AC fr e e z e t o have t he Swit ch aut om at ically select t he Act ive check boxes and
clear t he Addr e ss Le a r n in g check boxes only for t he port s specified in t he Por t list .
Select t his opt ion t o enable port securit y on t he Swit ch.
This field appears only in st acking m ode. Click t he drop- down list t o choose t he slot
num ber of t he Swit ch in a st ack.
This field displays t he port num ber. I n st acking m ode, t he first box field is t he slot I D and
t he second field is t he port num ber.
Set t ings in t his row apply t o all port s.
Use t his row only if you want t o m ake som e of t he set t ings t he sam e for all port s. Use t his
row first t o set t he com m on set t ings and t hen m ake adj ust m ent s on a port- by- port basis.
Note: Changes in this row are copied to all the ports as soon as you make them.
Select t his check box t o enable t he port securit y feat ure on t his port . The Swit ch forwards
packet s whose MAC address( es) is in t he MAC address t able on t his port . Packet s wit h no
m at ching MAC address( es) are dropped.
Clear t his check box t o disable t he port securit y feat ure. The Swit ch forwards all packet s
on t his port .
MAC address learning reduces out going broadcast t raffic. For MAC address learning t o
occur on a port , t he port it self m ust be act ive wit h address learning enabled.
Use t his field t o lim it t he num ber of ( dynam ic) MAC addresses t hat m ay be learned on a
port . For exam ple, if you set t his field t o " 5" on port 2, t hen only t he devices w it h t hese
five learned MAC addresses m ay access port 2 at any one t im e. A sixt h device m ust wait
unt il one of t he five learned MAC addresses ages out . MAC address aging out t im e can be
set in t he Sw it ch Se t u p screen. The valid range is from " 0" t o " 16K". " 0" m eans t his
feat ure is disabled.
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Swit ch's run- t im e m em ory. The Swit ch loses
t hese changes if it is t urned off or loses power, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op navigat ion
panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em ory when you are done configuring.
Click Ca n ce l t o begin configuring t his screen afresh.
