use I EEE 802.1Q t agged VLAN.
For exam ple, an I SP ( I nt ernet Service Provider) m ay divide different t ypes of services it provides t o
cust om ers int o different I P subnet s. Traffic for voice services is designat ed for I P subnet
172.16.1.0/ 24, video for 192.168.1.0/ 24 and dat a for 10.1.1.0/ 24. The Swit ch can t hen be
configured t o group incom ing t raffic based on t he source I P subnet of incom ing fram es.
You can t hen configure a subnet based VLAN wit h priorit y 6 and VI D of 100 for t raffic received from
I P subnet 172.16.1.0/ 24 ( voice services) . You can also have a subnet based VLAN wit h priorit y 5
and VI D of 200 for t raffic received from I P subnet 192.168.1.0/ 24 ( video services) . Last ly, you can
configure VLAN wit h priorit y 3 and VI D of 300 for t raffic received from I P subnet 10.1.1.0/ 24 ( dat a
services) . All unt agged incom ing fram es will be classified based on t heir source I P subnet and
priorit ized accordingly. That is, video services receive t he highest priorit y and dat a t he lowest .
