Unlike Telnet or FTP , which t ransm it dat a in clear t ext , SSH ( Secure Shell) is a secure
com m unicat ion prot ocol t hat com bines aut hent icat ion and dat a encrypt ion t o provide secure
encrypt ed com m unicat ion bet ween t wo host s over an unsecured net work.

Type t he privilege level for t his user. At t he t im e of writ ing, users m ay have a privilege
level of 0, 3, 13, or 14 represent ing different configurat ion right s as shown below.
• 0 - Display basic syst em inform at ion.
• 3 - Display configurat ion or st at us.
• 13 - Configure feat ures except for lo gin account s, SNMP user account s, t he
aut hent icat ion m et hod sequence and aut horizat ion set t ings, m ult iple logins,
adm inist rat or and enable passwords, and configurat ion inform at ion display.
• 14 - Configure login account s, SNMP user account s, t he aut hent icat ion m et hod
sequence and aut horizat ion set t ings, m ult iple logins, and adm inist rat or and enable
passwords, and display configurat ion inform at ion.
Users can run com m and lines if t he session's privilege level is great er t han or equal t o
t he com m and's privilege level. The session privilege init ially com es from t he privilege
of t he login account . For exam ple, if t he user has a privilege of 5, he/ she can run
com m ands t hat requires privilege level of 5 or less but not m ore.
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Swit ch's run- t im e m em ory. The Swit ch loses
t hese changes if it is t urned off or loses power, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op
navigat ion panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em ory when you are done
configuring.
