2 Functional Description

2.1 Overview

The RDL-3000 operates on a common software base controlled by options keys. Each
key enables modes of operation (PTP/PMP), modulation, RF frequency, available
channel sizes, etc. The operator must obtain and enter a permanent options key for
each unit before deploying units in a production network. The RDL-3000 can operate in
PPM mode (following chapters) or

2.2 PMP Mode

This section describes the parameters required to configure PMP support and an
overview of supported VLAN functions.
Operation in PMP mode is controlled by the options keys. Separate options keys are
required for the sector controller and each subscriber. Enter the options keys before
deploying and configuring the RDL-3000 units.

The RDL-3000 PMP firmware provides the following main features:
IEEE 802.1Q/1p standards compliance
Multiple Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) services per subscriber
VLAN trunking with tag insert/delete/re-map
Multiple Transparent LAN Services (TLS) transport based on VLAN ID
classification
VLAN Service Groups (broadcast/multicast) span subscribers
VLAN tagged management traffic
Individual Committed Information Rate (CIR) and Peak Information Rate (PIR)
setting per service
