Table 37. Power problems
• Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem is
solved.
• See Chapter 5 "Parts listing, Lenovo System x3750 M4 Type 8753" on page 203 to determine which
components are customer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units (FRU).
• If an action step is preceded by (Trained service technician only), that step must be performed only by
a Trained service technician.
Symptom
The power-on button does
not work, and the reset button
does not work (the server does
not start).
Note: The power-on button will
not function until approximately
10 seconds after the server has
been connected to ac power.
The server does not turn off
The server unexpectedly shuts
down, and the LEDs on the
operator information panel are
not lit.
The server goes directly to the
POST Event Viewer when it is
turned on.

Serial-device problems

Use this information to solve serial-device problems.
Action
1. Check the ac power LED and the dc power LED on the power supply see
"Power-supply LEDs" on page 170.
2. Check the IMM2 event log and resolve any errors related to the device.
3. Install an additional power supply or change the input power source from 110 V
to 220 V.
4. If you just installed an optional device, remove it and restart the server. If the
server now starts, you might have installed more devices than the power supply
can support.
5. Make sure that the power interposer card is connected to the power supply
connector and the system board correctly.
6. Replace the operator information panel and operator information panel cable.
1. Determine whether you are using an Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) or a non-ACPI operating system. If you are using a non-ACPI
operating system, complete the following steps:
a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
b. Turn off the server by pressing the power-on button and holding it down for
5 seconds.
c. Restart the server.
d. If the server fails POST and the power-on button does not work, disconnect
the ac power cord for 20 seconds; then, reconnect the ac power cord and
restart the server.
2. If the problem remains or if you are using an ACPI-aware operating system,
suspect the system board.
1. Check the IMM2 event log for errors and resolve any errors associated with
the device.
2. Check the LCD display panel for other error information.
3. If the problem remains, see "Solving undetermined problems" on page 198.
Check the IMM2 event log and resolve any errors that has occurred.
