5-6 BRAKES
Condition
Brake warning light
turns on after
engine start
Brake warning light
turns on when
brake is applied
Brake warning light
fails to turn on
even when parking
brake is applied
ABS warning light
does not turn on
for 2 sec. after
ignition switch has
turned ON
ABS warning light
remains on after
ignition switch has
turned on for 2 sec.
Possible Cause
D Parking brake applied.
D Insufficient amount of brake fluid.
D Brake fluid leaking from brake line.
D Brake warning light circuit faulty.
D Malfunctioning EBD system, if equipped
with ABS.
D Brake fluid leaking from brake line.
D Insufficient amount of brake fluid.
D Bulb burnt out.
D Brake warning light circuit open.
D Bulb burnt out.
D ABS warning light circuit open, if equipped
with ABS. (including check relay)
D Malfunctioning ABS, if equipped with ABS.
Correction
Release parking brake and check
that brake warning light turns off.
Add brake fluid.
Investigate leaky point, correct it and
add brake fluid.
Repair circuit.
Check system referring to
"DIAGNOSIS" of ABS section.
