ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE
(ECT) SENSOR
ECT SENSOR INSPECTION
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE (–) TERMINAL CABLE
FROM BATTERY
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from
the time the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK"
position and the negative (–) terminal cable is discon–
nected from the battery.
2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
3. REMOVE ECT SENSOR
(a) Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
(b) Using a 19 mm deep socket wrench, remove the ECT
sensor and gasket.
4. INSPECT ECT SENSOR
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between
the terminals.
Resistance:
Refer to the graph
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the ECT
sensor.
5. REINSTALL ECT SENSOR
(a) Install a new gasket to the ECT sensor.
(b) Using a 19 mm deep socket, install the ECT sensor.
Torque: 20 N–m (200 kgf–cm, 14 ft–lbf)
(c) Connect the ECT sensor connector.
6. REFILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT
Capacity:
8.7 liters (9.2 US qts, 7.7 Imp. qts)
7. RECONNECT NEGATIVE (–) TERMINAL CABLE
TO BATTERY
