MOTOR (MODEL EJ4-4001 AND EJ8-4001A)

Disconnect wires from the A1 and A2 terminals on the motor using two wrenches to prevent posts from turning.
Set a multimeter to 200 ohms and place the red (+) probe on the A1 terminal and black (–) probe on the A2
terminal. The multimeter should indicate continuity. If the reading is incorrect, a possible open or poor contact in a
brush assembly and/or open armature windings may be the cause. The motor will need to be removed from the
vehicle and repaired by a qualified technician. See Motor Removal on page 20-3.
3.
If reading is correct, reconnect the motor wires. See Motor Installation on page 20-14.
4.
Place the Tow/Run switch in the TOW position and connect the batteries. See Connecting the Batteries –
Electric Vehicles on page 1-3.
TEST PROCEDURE 3 – Field Circuit Open
See General Warnings on page 1-1.
1.
Disconnect the batteries and discharge the controller. See Disconnecting the Batteries – Electric Vehicles
on page 1-3.
2.
Disconnect wires from the S1 and S2 terminals on the motor using two wrenches to prevent posts from turning.
Set a multimeter to 200 ohms and place the red (+) probe on the S1 terminal and the black (–) probe on the
S2 terminal. The multimeter should indicate continuity. If the reading is incorrect, a possible open field coil or
bad connections at the terminals may be the cause. The motor will need to be removed from the vehicle and
repaired by a qualified technician. See Motor Removal on page 20-3.
3.
If reading is correct, reconnect the motor wires. See Motor Installation on page 20-14.
4.
Place the Tow/Run switch in the TOW position and connect the batteries. See Connecting the Batteries –
Electric Vehicles on page 1-3.

MOTOR REMOVAL

1.
Disconnect the batteries and discharge the controller. See Disconnecting the Batteries – Electric Vehicles
on page 1-3.
2.
Disconnect wires from the terminals on the motor using two wrenches to prevent posts from turning. Label
the wires to ensure proper reconnection.
3.
Slightly loosen all the lug nuts on both rear wheels.
4.
Place floor jack under transaxle and raise rear of vehicle (Figure 20-1, Page 20-4) then place jack stands under
frame crossmember between the spring mount and the side stringer, just forward of each rear wheel. Lower the
vehicle to let the jack stands support the vehicle (Figure 20-2, Page 20-4). See following WARNING.
WARNING
• Lift only one end of the vehicle at a time. Use a suitable lifting device (chain hoist or hydraulic floor
jack) with 1000 lb. (454 kg) minimum lifting capacity. Do not use lifting device to hold vehicle in raised
position. Use approved jack stands of proper weight capacity to support the vehicle and chock
the wheels that remain on the floor. When not performing a test or service procedure that requires
movement of the wheels, lock the brakes.
