Chapter 13 Spanning Tree Protocol
DESCRIPTION
Configure t he priorit y for each port here.
Priorit y decides which port should be disabled when m ore t han one port form s a loop in a
swit ch. Port s wit h a higher priorit y num eric value are disabled first . The allowed range is
bet ween 0 and 255 and t he default value is 128.
Pat h cost is t he cost of t ransm it t ing a fram e on t o a LAN t hrough t hat port . I t is
recom m ended t o assign t his value according t o t he speed of t he bridge. The slower t he
m edia, t he higher t he cost - see
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Swit ch's run- t im e m em ory. The Swit ch loses
t hese changes if it is t urned off or loses power, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op navigat ion
panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em ory when you are done configuring.

Root refers t o t he base of t he spanning t ree ( t he root bridge) . Ou r Br idge is t his swit ch.
This Swit ch m ay also be t he root bridge.
This is t he unique ident ifier for t his bridge, consist ing of bridge priorit y plus MAC address.
This I D is t he sam e for Root and Ou r Br idge if t he Swit ch is t he root swit ch.
This is t he t im e int erval ( in seconds) at which t he root swit ch t ransm it s a configurat ion
m essage. The root bridge det erm ines Hello Tim e, Max Age and Forwarding Delay.
