configurat ion t o nonvolat ile m em ory. Nonvolat ile m em ory refers t o t he Swit ch's st orage t hat
rem ains even if t he Swit ch's power is t urned off.
Not e: Use t he Sa v e link when you are done wit h a configurat ion session.
4.5 Switch Lockout
You could block yourself ( and all ot hers) from m anaging t he Swit ch if you do one of t he following:

Delet e t he m anagem ent VLAN ( default is VLAN 1) .

Delet e all port- based VLANs wit h t he CPU port as a m em ber. The " CPU port " is t he m anagem ent
port of t he Swit ch.

Filt er all t raffic t o t he CPU port .
4
Disable all port s.
5
Misconfigure t he t ext configurat ion file.
6
Forget t he password and/ or I P address.
7
Prevent all services from accessing t he Swit ch.
8
Change a service port num ber but forget it .
Not e: Be careful not t o lock yourself and ot hers out of t he Swit ch.
4.6 Resetting the Switch
I f you lock yourself ( and ot hers) from t he Swit ch or forget t he adm inist rat or password, you will
need t o reload t he fact ory- default configurat ion file or reset t he Swit ch back t o t he fact ory default s.
4.6.1 Reload the Configuration File
Uploading t he fact ory- default configurat ion file replaces t he current configurat ion file wit h t he
fact ory- default configurat ion file. This m eans t hat you will lose all previous configurat ions and t he
speed of t he console port will be reset t o t he default of 9600 bps wit h 8 dat a bit s, no parit y, one
st op bit and flow cont rol set t o none. The password will also be reset t o " 1234" and t he I P address
t o 192.168.1.1.
To upload t he configurat ion file, do t he following:

Connect t o t he console port using a com put er wit h t erm inal em ulat ion soft ware.

Disconnect and reconnect t he Swit ch's power t o begin a session. When you reconnect t he Swit ch's
power, you will see t he init ial screen.
