35.1 BPDU Guard Overview
A BPDU ( Bridge Prot ocol Dat a Unit s) is a dat a fram e t hat cont ains inform at ion about STP . STP-
aware swit ches exchange BPDUs periodically.
The BPDU guard feat ure allows you t o prevent any new STP- aware swit ch from connect ing t o an
exist ing net work and causing STP t opology changes in t he net work. I f t here is any BPDU det ect ed
on t he port ( s) on which BPDU guard is enabled, t he Swit ch disables t he port ( s) aut om at ically. You
can t hen enable t he port ( s) m anually in t he Ba sic Se t t ing > Por t Se t up screen (
page 72) or use t he Er r disa ble Re cove r y screen ( see
port ( s) becom e act ive aft er a cert ain t im e int erval.
