Managing TeemTalk Licence Keys

For each X display (workstation or terminal) on which TeemTalk is to be used there is
a single 12 digit licence key required which is based on the Internet (IP) address of the
given X display. All workstations whether they be standalone where they communi-
cate to the host via a serial port, or connected using TCP/IP or LAT will have an IP
address.
Even if TeemTalk does not have a valid licence key it will always display the IP
address of the system on which it is being displayed, and it is this IP address which is
displayed by TeemTalk which should be used for obtaining the licence key.
In most cases the licence key will be inserted directly in the /etc/lm/teemx file on the
local workstation. In more complex environments where there may be many worksta-
tions running TeemTalk it is not necessarily desirable to have the licence key held
locally on each machine. For this reason the licence key file for TeemTalk can be
redirected using:
-lm <path and filename>
and therefore can reside on a central server. Additionally the TeemTalk licence
manager can interpret the licence manager file as a list of licence keys. It reads each
licence key from the list until the correct licence key is validated for the display on
which TeemTalk is being displayed, or it reaches the end of the list.
Using this simple method a complex network of systems can be configured using a
single licence file located centrally on the network containing licence keys for all
systems required to run TeemTalk.
Any characters after the 12 digit licence key are also ignored so the file can be easily
commented.
A sample licence key file could look like this:
2-4
203985120727 dopey
189352905714 bashful
782318956723 happy
993469474363 grumpy
748972330139 sneezy
