Selecting and editing text on the Stage
For basic text editing, it's fastest to edit text directly on the Stage.
To edit text on the Stage:
Click a text cast member on the Stage to select it as a sprite.
1
The text sprite appears as a normal sprite with double borders.
Click twice to edit the text.
2
An insertion point appears in the text, and you can begin editing.
Use the Text inspector (Window > Text Inspector) to reformat the text.
3
You can also use the Modify > Font and Modify > Paragraph commands to reformat
selected text.
When you make a change, Director updates all sprites that display the text cast member.
Note: If you're changing the background color of text, you have two options. To change the background color of the
cast member, double-click the text sprite on the Stage and assign a value from the Color box on the Tool palette.
You can also tint the sprite's background, which blends the background color of the cast member with the
background color of the sprite. To apply this effect, select the sprite, and select a background color on the Property
inspector's Sprite tab.
To edit text on the Stage during playback:
Select a text sprite, and click Editable in the Property inspector's Sprite tab. See "Displaying
1
and editing sprite properties in the Property inspector" on page 162.
Begin playing back the movie.
2
On the Stage, double-click to edit the text.
