REBOOTING WITHOUT LOSING
RAM DISK DATA
RAM-Intact Warm Boot allows you to reboot
without losing the contents of RAM disks
placed in the Turbo's memory or host's EMS
Memory.
A warm boot is actuated by pressing
<Ctrl>-<AIt>-<Del> or <Ctrl>-<AIt>-<lns>,
ca using the computer to reset. This is
similar to what happens when you turn on the
, power, except that it doesn't go through the
entire power-on self test and it doesn't
clear memory. A cold boot clears memory and
runs the computer's power-on self test.
When RAM-Intact Warm Boot is active, pressing
<Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> or <Ctrl>-<AIt>-<lns>, will
displa y a message instructing you to press W
for a warm boot or C for a cold boot.
o
The contents of the Turbo's memory and
the host's EMS and Protected Memory will
remain intact if you select W for a
warm boot.
o
All Memory will be cleared if you select
C for a cold boot.
NOTE: RAM-Intact Warm Boot is not
effective on RAM disks placed in the
host's DOS Memory. (Data in the host's
DOS Memory will be lost when rebooting.)
You can disable this feature using the command
syntax given in Appendix
B.
It
must be used
~
on the first RAM disk installed in Protected
or EMS Memory. This will disable it for all
RAM disks in Protected and EMS Memory.
