HARDWARE INSTALLATION
Installing the PCturbo
286e
can be as easy as
plugging it into the PC--you might not have to
move a single jumper. The next sections will
help you through this process.
CAUTION: Do not remove the ICs that are
covered with heat sinks (black metal
fins). These ICs have delicate pins
that can easily be damaged when inserting
the IC back into its socket. Removing
the heat sinks will void your warranty.
JUMPER SETTINGS
The PCturbo
286e
will work in most systems
without changing any jumpers from their
factory settings. This section will show
the factory settings and help you to make any
changes that are necessary for your system.
Appendix A summarizes the jumper settings.

A jumper is a plastic clip placed over a
pair of gold pins so that its intern.al
wiper makes electrical contact between
the pins.
To keep from losing a jumper that is not
needed, place it on
~
of the pins
instead of across both of them. The
diagram below represents three jumpers in
place and one removed and stored on one
of the pins.
This jumper is installed and
connects a set of pins.
This jumper has been removed and
stored on one of the pins.
