About This Manual This manual presumes that you are already familiar with your IBM PC compatible computer. While Kelvin has been designed to be easy to install, we recom- mend that you refer to your computer’s reference manual when terminology or installation steps are unfamiliar to you.

Section 2: Software DOS UTILITY KSCAN Monitor Setup With a few simple keystrokes, the KSCAN utility program allows you to define your monitor type and select a video mode for your monitor. KSCAN is installed using the KINSTALL program. Because it is a DOS-based utility, do not run KSCAN from inside other programs, such as Windows.
Section 2: Software Selecting the Monitor Type Selecting the proper monitor type allows Kelvin to display the highest quality output supported with your monitor. From the main menu select Monitor Type, and the following menu appears: Figure 2.10: Monitor Type Setup This screen displays a list of different monitor types.
Section 2: Software screen is displayed with a set of color blocks and sample text. The mode number and mode being tested is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Press ENTER to move through each mode available. You can abort the test at any time by pressing the ESC key. If any of the screens appear distorted, rolling, or unreadable, or if the program hangs up, it is likely that the monitor type you selected is incorrect.
Section 2: Software Selecting the Set Advanced button displays a dialog box with drop-down menus for each available resolu- tion. Select the desired vertical refresh rate for each resolution. After making your selections, press the Verify button to check that the setting selected is compatible with your monitor.
