How to Remove the Steer
Cylinder
Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,
the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hose
end must be replaced. All connections must be
torqued to specification during installation. Refer to
Specifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting Torque
Specifications.

Block the non-steer tires.

Remove the pin retaining fasteners from the
rod-end pivot pin. Remove the pivot pin.
Note: While removing the pin retaining fasteners,
take note of the quantity and location of the
spacers when removing the pivot pin.

Remove the pin retaining fasteners from the
barrel-end pivot pin. Remove the pin.
Note: While removing the pin retaining fasteners,
take note of the quantity and location of the
spacers when removing the pivot pin.

Remove the steer cylinder from the machine.

Tag, disconnect and plug the hydraulic hoses
from the steer cylinder. Cap the fittings on the
cylinder.
Bodily injury hazard. Spraying
hydraulic oil can penetrate and
burn skin. Loosen hydraulic
connections very slowly to allow
the oil pressure to dissipate
gradually. Do not allow oil to
squirt or spray.
Component damage hazard.
Hoses can be damaged if they
are kinked or pinched.

Note: While removing the retaining fasteners, take
note of the quantity and location of the spacers
between the bellcrank and the steer links.

Steer Axle Components
Remove the steer cylinder. Refer to Repair
Procedure, How to Remove the Steer
Cylinder.
Remove the retaining fasteners from the steer
links at each end of the bellcrank.
Center a lifting jack under the drive chassis at
the steer end of the machine.
Raise the machine approximately 14 inches /
36 cm. Place blocks under the chassis for
support.
Crushing hazard. The chassis
will fall if not properly supported.
Turn the yokes to the side so the bellcrank
can be removed.
