COOLING FAN

GENERAL

A computer-controlled cooling fan assists engine cooling during
operation in high temperatures. Fan actuation is controlled by
engine temperature and vehicle speed.

REMOVAL

1.
Remove seat.
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause
death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery
cable before proceeding. (00048a)
2.
Disconnect negative battery cable.
NOTE
XB12X/XB12XT/XB12P: Remove the fan shroud. See
SCOOPS, Ram Air Scoop and Fan Shroud:

Remove shock absorber. See
ABSORBER.

Rotated fan clockwise (looking towards front of vehicle)
to remove.

INSTALLATION

NOTES

4-27. When installing cooling fan (3), be sure
wiring, transmission vent hose and fuel line are routed
through notch (2) in fan body.
On California models, both fuel tank and canister vent
hoses are routed through notch in fan body.

Install cooling fan and rotate counterclockwise into posi-
tion.
3.
Install cooling fan fasteners. Tighten to 12-36 in-lbs (1.4-
4 Nm).

Install shock absorber. See
ABSORBER.
NOTE
XB12X/XB12XT/XB12P: Install the fan shroud. See
SCOOPS, Ram Air Scoop and Fan Shroud:

After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is
locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift
causing loss of control, which could result in death or
serious injury. (00070b)

Connect negative battery cable, tightening to 60-70 in-lbs
(6.8-7.9 Nm).
Install seat.
