REAR WHEEL

REMOVAL
1.
Place a scissor jack under jacking point and raise rear
wheel off ground. For location of jacking point see
4.19 EXHAUST
SYSTEM.
NOTE
Do not operate rear brake pedal with rear wheel removed or
caliper piston may be forced out. Reseating piston requires
caliper disassembly.

2-19. Remove caliper carrier from swingarm
by removing caliper carrier fasteners. See
BRAKE
CALIPER.

2-41. Loosen rear axle pinch fastener (2).
4.
Loosen rear axle (1) approximately 15 rotations to allow
partial tension to be removed from rear drive system.
5.
Remove idler pulley assembly. See
IDLER PULLEY, Idler Pulley
6.
Remove lower belt guard. See
7.
On XB12Ss, XB12XT and XB12X models, it will be
necessary to remove the rear fender. See
8.
Remove rear axle.
NOTE
Avoid over bending, twisting, crimping, pinching,kinking, or
prying on the drive belt. See
PULLEY. for proper handling of drive belt.
9.
Slide drive belt out of the way and remove rear wheel.

5.7 DRIVE BELT AND IDLER
CLEANING AND INSPECTION
Using compressed air to "spin dry" bearings can cause
bearing to fly apart, which could result in death or serious
injury. (00505b)
1.
Inspect all parts for damage or excessive wear.

Inspect brake rotor. See

Inspection
Using compressed air to "spin dry" bearings can cause
bearing to fly apart, which could result in death or serious
injury. (00505b)
1.
Inspect all parts for damage or excessive wear.

Measure rotor thickness. Refer to

Measure radial and lateral rotor runout. Refer to
Table
2-20.
4.
Replace rotor as required.

Drive Sprocket
Do not re-use sprocket mounting screws. Re-using
sprocket mounting screws can result in torque loss and
damage to the sprocket and/or belt assembly. (00480b)

2-20. To remove drive sprocket (3), remove
sprocket fasteners (1) and washers (2). Discard the
fasteners.
2.
With the lip of the sprocket facing the inside, position the
sprocket on the wheel.
3.
Install new fasteners and washers and tighten to 35-37
ft-lbs (48-50 Nm).
