Compressor Maintenance

48
The turbo pump must be operated at least once every two
months to keep the turbo pump bearings lubricated. The
CryoBay will automatically operate the turbo pump 60 days
from when the CryoBay was power- cycled. This will not
disrupt normal cryogenic operations.
The CryoBay will start the turbo pump. A high pitch hum
may be heard – this is normal. After the turbo pump has
reached full speed (approximately one minute), the CryoBay
will turn the turbo pump off.
A message in the VnmrJ message bar or Info space says:
• 200 Turbo Maintenance Running
• 201 Turbo Maintenance Complete
While the turbo pump is in operation, additional vibrations
and acoustic noise may occur.
The compressor oil adsorber must be serviced (before 20,000
hours for air cooled or 30,000 hours for water cooled of
operation) or damage to the cryogenic system may occur. To
check the hours of compressor operation:
• Check the hour meter located on the compressor.
or
• From the CryoBay Controls Help menu, select Service
Counter. The Service Counter window will appear. This
gives the hours of compressor operation since the last
reset, as seen in
Figure
Field Service.)
