Disconnecting from helium compressor

Cryogenic Systems Operation
Tighten the flexible helium line to the helium compressor
using only the tools provided and follow this procedure:
1
Verify that the flat seals are in place on the male
couplings.
Hold the body nut with the appropriate size wrench.
2
Finger- tighten the union nut to the male coupling. DO
3
NOT twist the flexible line.
4
Tighten the union nut to the male coupling using an
appropriate- sized wrench while holding the body nut
stationary to avoid application of any torque to the
flexible line.
Continue to tighten until the stop is reached. DO NOT
5
tighten past the stop.
6
The size of the coupling determines the sizes of the body
nut, union nut, and torque.
1/2 inch coupling (#8)
• 1 3/16 inch (30mm) union nut
• 1 inch (26 mm) body nut
1/4 inch coupling (#4)
• 3/4 inch (19 mm) union nut
• 5/8 inch (16 mm) body nut
Use the appropriate wrenches to hold the union and
1
body nuts.
Break the connection by loosing the union nut. The
2
bulkhead nut should not rotate. If it does begin to rotate,
have another person attach the appropriate- sized wrench
and hold the bulkhead nut stationary.
Hold the body nut and unscrew the union nut the
3
remainder of the way. Some venting of gas may occur,
this is normal.
