BATTERY/CHARGING SYSTEM
TROUBLESHOOTING
BATTERY IS DAMAGED OR WEAK
1. Remove the battery (page 15-6).
Check the battery condition using the
recommended battery tester.
RECOMMENDED BATTERY TESTER:
BM-210-AH ar BM-210
BATTERY MATE or equivalent
2. Install the battery (page 15-3).
Check the battery current leakage (Leak test
page 15-5).
STANDARD: 0.01 mA max
3. Check the alternator charging coil (page 15-7).
STANDARD:
0.1 – 1.0 Ω (20
C/68
F)

4. Remove the battery (page 15-3).
Measure and record the battery voltage using
digital multimeter (15-4).
Install the battery (page 15-3).
Start the engine.
Measure the charging voltage (page 15-4).
Compare the measurement to result of the
following calculation.
STANDARD:

Check the regulator/rectifier connector voltage and
resistance (page 15-6).

Disconnect the regulator/rectifier 4P connector and
recheck the battery current leakage.

• Faulty ignition switch
• Faulty charging coil
• Charging system is normal
• Open circuit in related wire
• Loose or poor contacts of related terminal
• Shorted wire harness
