MAINTENANCE

STEERING HEAD BEARINGS

Place a block or work stand under the engine to raise the front
wheel off the ground.
Check that the handlebar rotates freely and that the control cable
does not interfere with handlebar rotation.
If the handlebar moves unevenly, binds or has vertical play,
inspect and adjust the steering head bearings (see section 11 or
22).

CYLINDER COMPRESSION

Warm up the engine.
Stop the engine and remove the spark plug.
Insert the compression gauge.
Place the choke lever fully closed position.
Open the throttle grip fully and crank the engine with the starter
motor.
NOTE
Crank the engine until the gauge reading stops rising.
Cylinder compression:

1.350 kPa (13.5 kg/cm
; 192 psi)
Low compression can be caused by:
• Improper valve adjustment.
• Valve leakage.
• Worn piston ring or cylinder.
High compression can be caused by:
• Carbon deposits in combustion chamber or on the piston.
