Connector used on a PC to connect a keyboard. If your keyboard has a
DIN connector, a DIN to Mini-Din adapter can be used
Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension. Enables transmission of e-mail
containing non-English characters as well as attachments such as
image files
Network Information Services. The security and file-access databases
on UNIX systems, previously known as Yellow Pages
Network Time Protocol. A protocol to get time from a timeserver (NTP-
server). To get a time when a message was stored in the event log, a
NTP server must be specified
Optical Character Recognition. A technology that converts scanned
documents into editable and searchable text
Portable Document Format. A format for cross-platform distribution of
electronic documents. Can be viewed by anyone that has Acrobat
Reader from Adobe installed
Reverse Address Resolution Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol governing the
translation of a Data-Link Control (DLC) address to an IP address
Reduced Instruction Set Computing. A processor that recognizes only a
limited number of assembly-language instructions
Small Computer System Interface. A high-speed parallel interface, used
to connect a computer to peripheral devices using just one port
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. The TCP/IP protocol for exchanging e-
mail
Simple Network Management Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol used to
manage and monitor nodes on a network
Transmission Control Protocol. The connection-oriented, transport-
level protocol used in the TCP/IP suite of protocols
Tagged Image File Format. Format for storing bit-mapped images.
Typically used for scanned documents and uncompressed images
