Passive Alarm Monitoring

338
The APS 4.1 platform supports a passive alarm monitoring feature. With
this feature, an application using the APS platform can connect to the
APS platform, look at the APS status log file, and report the errors back to
the application, filtering and formatting the text as desired.
For an APS application to use the passive alarm monitoring feature:
1. Have the APS system administrator set the APS platform
software to generate the status log file in ASCII format. See
''Specifying an ASCII Format'' on page 230 for instructions on
how a status log file is made available in ASCII format.
2. Log in to the primary APS system via modem or LAN/WAN.
Secondary APS systems, if present, do not contain any report
data.
3. Access the status log file. Either copy the file to a remote
machine for examination later, or open it on the APS machine.
The ASCII file the passive alarm monitoring agent uses is located
in:
export/home0/issg/issg_main/issg_lib/liblogger/issg_logger_
seq_file
4. Examine the status log file. Filter the file with a grep command,
looking for errors specific to the application, or tail the file to see
errors appended since the last access time.
