APS Cannot Communicate With HLR

In APS 4.1, all communication to the HLR is across the NewNet card.
Symptom
n
Out-bound calls are being made to mobile phones in roaming
areas not served by the provider
n
IS-41 proxy- or client-type errors (such as 524027, or 518003
through 518010) display in the status log file
Basis

A link or links may be down
n
All routes may be down
n
A NewNet card may have failed
n
Links may be administered improperly
n
Routes may be administered improperly
Solution
1. Check all physical connections, making sure they are snug and
correctly placed.
2. Trace the call. See ''Call Tracing TCAP Messages'' on page 201
and perform the steps there.
3. Check links by using the ss7tool command.
See ''Monitoring SS7 Gateway'' on page 150 for a complete
discussion of this command.
a. First, use the ss7tool linkstat to verify the physical
connectivity of the NewNet card.
If the card shows out of service, load the SS7 drivers. See
''Configuring the SS7 Gateway'' on page 146.
b. Then, use
ss7tool l2trace
ss7tool l3trace
ss7tool sccptrace
to verify message level connectivity.
c. Use the ss7tool command with other arguments as necessary.
