Specifying an ASCII
Format
230
Besides the ring buffer, the status log file is maintained in another file
located in:
/export/home0/issg/issg_main/issg_lib/liblogger/issg_logger_seq_file
This file keeps adding entries to the end of the file and is deleted hourly.
The status log file may be either:
n
An EBCIDIC binary file
n
An ASCII flat file
By default, the status log file is a binary file in EBCIDIC format. To view
the contents of the status log file, open the APS interface and choose
View
Status Log
The status log file can be designated as ASCII format as well. To view the
contents of the ASCII status log file, you may use vi or any other ASCII
editor.
To implement a passive alarm monitoring system, the status log file must
be in ASCII format. A passive alarm monitoring system uses the status
log file in its ASCII format.
Passive alarm monitoring must have these steps performed to access the
ASCII version of the status log file.
To write the status log file as an ASCII file:
1. Open the file /liblogger/issg_seq-active.ini with your favorite
ASCII editor.
2. Edit the line with the SEQ variable to read
SEQ=ON
This tells the logger manager to write to both the binary file and
the ASCII file.
3. Edit the line with the FLUSH variable to read
FLUSH=ON
When FLUSH is on, messages appear in the log file as soon as it
is logged. When passive alarm monitoring system is used, alarms
display real time, but system performance may be degraded.
