Control Shelf Backplane Connections

The MPG-ATS card is the main cable connection card attached to the center of the rear
backplane of the control shelf. Two sets of cables are attached from the MPG-ATS
card to each of the even numbered peripheral shelves.
Figure 8-1 shows the rear backplane of the Control Shelf where the MPG-ATS card is
installed in the center. The MPG-ATS card is factory installed.
Replacing an MPG-ATS
The MPG-ATS card is designed for durable and long term use. However, if the need
to replace one arises, follow these directions:
The MPG-ATS card can only be replaced on a system which is shut down.
1. Unfasten the 14 mounting screws (4 on each side of the MPG-ATS, 3 on the
top and 3 on the bottom).
2. Unfasten the two Hex socket screws on the middle of the MPG-ATS card.
3. Grasp both knobs and unfasten them simultaneously by turning them
counter-clockwise.
4. Pull on the knobs. The MPG-ATS card pulls off.
5. Grasp the knobs of the replacement MPG-ATS card, align the connectors with
their complements on the Control Shelf backplane, noting the UP indication
for the top of the MPG-ATS card.
6. Push the MPG-ATS knobs toward the backplane studs to secure the
connections.
7. Turn the knobs until they are tight.
8. Fasten the 12 mounting screws on the sides of the card.
9. Connect the required cables.
