194 Fieldbus control through a fieldbus adapter

Basics of the fieldbus control interface

The cyclic communication between a fieldbus system and the DC/DC converter unit
consists of 16/32-bit input and output data words. The DC/DC converter unit supports at
the maximum the use of 12 data words (16 bits) in each direction.

Control word and Status word
The Control word is the principal means for controlling the DC/DC converter unit from a
fieldbus system. It is sent by the fieldbus master station to the DC/DC converter unit
through the adapter module. The DC/DC converter unit switches between its states
according to the bit-coded instructions on the Control word, and returns status information
to the master in the Status word.
The contents of the Control word and the Status word are detailed on pages
respectively.

References
References are 16-bit words containing a sign bit and a 15-bit integer. A negative
reference is formed by calculating the two's complement from the corresponding positive
reference.
ABB drives can receive control information from multiple sources including analog and
digital inputs, the control panel and a fieldbus adapter module. In order to have the DC/DC
converter unit controlled through the fieldbus, the module must be defined as the source
for control information, eg, reference.
