Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection Cartridge

The Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection Cartridge is designed for use with
GeneBLAzer assays from Invitrogen. Also, the standard dual-emission design enables
fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurement.
The Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection Cartridge occupies one (1) slot in the
detection cartridge drawer. It can be installed in either the top detection cartridge drawer for
top reading, or in the bottom detection cartridge drawer for bottom reading.
For installation instructions, see
The can do the following read types:
End Point, see
Kinetic, see
Well Scan, see
You can create protocols that use the Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection
Cartridge in the SoftMax Pro Software. For information on creating protocols, see "Creating a
Protocol" in the SoftMax Pro Software application help or user guide.
You can use the Protocol Manager in the SoftMax Pro Software to quickly find and open a
predefined protocol.
More protocols and updated protocols can be downloaded from the Knowledge Base on the
Molecular Devices support web site (www.moleculardevices.com/support) or from the
protocol sharing web site (www.softmaxpro.org).
About Fluorescence Intensity and GeneBLAzer
In fluorescence intensity read mode, the source light is directed through an excitation filter
and then focused by an objective lens from above or below the microplate. The filter passes
only the specified wavelength band necessary to excite samples. The objective lens collects
the resulting fluorescence and directs it through an emission filter to separate background
light from the specific wavelengths generated by samples. This signal is detected by one or
two photomultiplier tubes.
The Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection Cartridge includes an ultra high-power
LED for excitation of the FRET donor moiety of the substrate. An optimized filter set together
with the dual-photomultiplier tube (PMT) design of the enables dual emission assays, such
as FRET, to be done with faster read times and improved precision.
The Fluorescence Intensity (FI) GeneBLAzer Detection Cartridge is designed for use with
GeneBLAzer assays from Invitrogen. The GeneBLAzer technology facilitates fluorescent
detection of β-lactamase reporter activity in mammalian cells by using the reporter gene, bla
(M), and a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based substrate (CCF2). See
