9 To confirm that you have inserted the FRC barriette, choose OK.
 The motor and valve unit blocks the spirette. The baseline is set
automatically and other preparations are performed automatically.
 Hold the flow sensor away from the patient because gas is flushed from
the patient tube. If the patient inhales the gas that is flushed, this can
influence the later measurement.
 After all preparations are finished, Tidal Breathing is displayed in the
colored status bar.
10 Remove the wrapper from the spirette, but keep the wrapper.
11 If you want to perform an FVL test, an MVV test, or an SVC test, attach the
nose clip to the patient's nose.
12 Hand the flow sensor to the patient.
 To perform the MBW breathing maneuver
1 Tell the patient to take the spirette into the mouth and to seal the lips
around the spirette.
 The patient must not block the opening with the tongue or teeth or bite
down excessively on the spirette.
2 Tell the patient to breathe at rest.
 During the whole breathing maneuver the patient only needs to breathe
at rest. The patient must not breathe particularly deeply or forcefully.
 At some point in time, the valve closes automatically and the patient
inhales the O
gas.
2
 The O
gas is released with regular atmospheric pressure. The patient
2
can decide how fast to breathe and does not need to fear that the gas is
pumped with high pressure. However, the patient should breathe regularly
and relaxedly, not too fast.
 The manufacturer recommends that the patient does not watch the
display. Watching the display is often more irritating than helpful to the
patient to breathe at rest.
 The O
gas is dry compared to air. This can cause a tingling or slight
2
irritation in the throat. Therefore, breathing slowly and at rest also prevents
coughing.
 If the patient has to cough, you must abort and repeat the trial.
 In the corner on the top right, the progress of the N
indicated in percentages. When the N
ends automatically.
3 Tell the patient to take the spirette out of the mouth and to breathe
normally again.
 If the trial is acceptable, the green quality message is displayed.
 If the trial is not acceptable, a yellow or red quality message is
displayed suggesting how to improve the breathing maneuver.
