Performing lung function tests

9 To confirm that you have inserted the DLCO barriette, choose OK.
 The motor and valve unit blocks the spirette. The baseline is set
automatically and other preparations are performed automatically.
 Hold the flow sensor away from the patient because gas is flushed from
the patient tube. If the patient inhales the gas that is flushed, this can
influence the later measurement.
 After all preparations are finished, Tidal Breathing is displayed in the
colored status bar.
10 Remove the wrapper from the spirette, but keep the wrapper.
11 If you want to perform an FVL test, an MVV test, or an SVC test, attach the
nose clip to the patient's nose.
12 Hand the flow sensor to the patient.
 To perform the DLCO breathing maneuver
1 Tell the patient to take the spirette into the mouth and to seal the lips
around the spirette.
 The patient must not block the opening with the tongue or teeth or bite
down excessively on the spirette.
2 While the colored status bar displays Tidal Breathing, tell the patient to
breathe at rest through the spirette.
 At some point in time, the colored status bar displays Fully Exhale. The
patient does not need to fully exhale immediately. The patient can
continue to breathe at rest until the patient is comfortable to fully exhale.
3 After Fully Exhale is displayed, tell and encourage the patient to empty the
lungs completely.
4 After the patient has started to fully exhale, tap Activate.
 In the colored status bar, Keep Going ... is displayed.
5 Further encourage the patient to fully exhale.
 When the patient has stopped exhaling, the motor and valve unit closes
automatically.
 You can configure whether the motor and valve unit closes
automatically or manually under
> Activate Manual
Close. If you have activated manual close, you need to
choose the button
Close
 The patient must not inhale before the motor and valve unit closes. If
the patient inhales before the motor and valve unit closes, false results can
follow.
6 After the motor and valve unit has closed, tell the patient to inhale.
 The DLCO gas is released with regular atmospheric pressure. The
patient has to inhale fast in a single inhalation.
7 When the patient inhales, encourage the patient to fully inhale.
 In the colored status bar, Hold Your Breath is displayed.
Utilities > Configuration > Test > DLCO
to close the motor and valve unit.
