7-4 Upgrading your Server

DEVICE INSTALLATION OR REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Install or remove a component from the server as in the following procedure.

Removing the Side Access Panel

To install options in your system, you must remove the access panel on the left-hand side of the
system (as viewed from the front). The side access panel on the right-hand side of the system (as
viewed from the front) does not have to be removed.
For proper cooling and airflow, do not operate the system with the side access
panel removed. Always replace the panel before powering on the system.
If you are removing the side access panel after the system is set up, you must
first power off the system and all external devices and then unplug the system
power cord(s).
To remove the left-hand side access
Prepare your system for upgrade. See Preparing Your System for Upgrade earlier in this

The left-hand side access panel is secured to the chassis with two thumbscrews. Loosen the

thumbscrews securing the side access panel.
Using the indentation on the side of the panel, slide the side access panel toward the rear of

the system. This unlocks the locking fingers behind the side access panel.
Pull the side access panel out and away from the chassis.
