Application manual
Zone 1 phase to phase loop gives trip.
9.
Set time delays to trip.
9.1. Set tPPZ1 to 0.000 s.
Zone 1 phase to phase loops gives instantaneous trip.
9.2. Set tPGZ1 to 0.000 s.
Zone 1 phase to ground loops gives instantaneous trip.

Calculating settings for zone 2

1.
Set DirModeZ2 to Forward.
2.
Set MhoCharZ2 to Directional, if CharPGZ2 or CharPPZ2 is set to Mho.
3.
Set Z2 to 44.200 Ω.
The reach of zone 2 is minimum set to 120 % of the line impedance to guarantee that
the adjacent 138 kV busbar is covered by the zone. The same setting will be used by
both mho and quadrilateral characteristics. Z2Rev will not have any effect as
DirModeZ2 is selected as Forward.
Zone 2 must be set so that there is no risk for unselective trip on faults out on adjacent
lines.
Zone 2 must not overreach zone 1 of the line B – C as shown in figure 9.

Figure 9:
Distance protection zones reach for zone 2
The reactive reach of zone 1 B-C is 10 Ω
The minimum set reach is Z2 ≥ 1.2 · 17.7 = 21.2 Ω
The maximum set reach can approximately be calculated as (B: high source
impedance, A: low source impedance):
