6. Do not remove the bearings from the differential case unless there is a
bearing failure. Whenever the bearings are removed (regardless of usage)
they must be replaced with new ones. Remove the case side bearing with a
puller as shown in
If the bearings are removed from the differential case, locate and retrieve the
shims from the case. For assembly purposes, note the location of the shim.

To prevent personal injury, always wear a face shield or safety
goggles when striking a drift punch with a hammer.
7. Put the case in a vise. Drive the lock pin out of the pinion mate shaft
